BYD Company Limited, a global leader in new energy vehicles (NEVs), has officially joined the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), a milestone for Chinese automakers in global automotive standard-setting. Nominated by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and unanimously approved by IATF members, BYD will co-formulate core international automotive standards with giants like Volkswagen and General Motors.
Founded in 1999, the IATF is the global authority on automotive quality management systems, historically dominated by European and American automakers. Its founding members include major automotive associations from five countries, and its IATF 16949 standard is a globally recognized benchmark for entering the international automotive supply chain.
BYD’s accession reflects its internationally recognized technological strength and quality management. As the world’s NEV sales champion for four consecutive years, BYD sold 4.6 million vehicles in 2025, with overseas sales exceeding 1 million units, and its NEVs are available in 119 countries, strengthening its global influence.
Amid the global automotive industry’s electrification and intelligence transition, BYD will leverage its technological advantages to deepen collaboration with the IATF and IAOB, adhering to “Go Global, Grow Local” to help the standard system address transformation challenges.
Industry insiders note that BYD’s accession breaks the long-term monopoly of European and American automakers on global automotive rules, enhancing Chinese automakers’ voice. As a NEV pioneer, BYD will bring its new energy experience to IATF 16949 standard formulation, offering Chinese solutions for electrification adaptation.
Looking ahead, BYD will take this membership as a starting point to actively participate in international standard-setting, collaborating with global partners to promote agreener, more intelligent global automotive industry.
