BYD's "Shenzhen" Car Carrier Embarks on European Voyage with Nearly 7,000 NEVs

In a significant boost to its global logistics capabilities, BYD's massive pure car and truck carrier (PCTC), the "BYD EXPLORER NO.1" (also known as the "Shenzhen"), recently departed for Europe loaded with 6,817 new energy vehicles (NEVs) following a coordinated loading operation at two major Chinese ports.

The vessel, one of the world's largest and most advanced car carriers, undertook a strategic "north-south relay" loading process. It first called at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan in eastern China before proceeding to BYD's dedicated export hub at Xiaomo International Logistics Port in Shenzhen. This efficient dual-port operation maximized cargo intake for its maiden European voyage this year.

The "Shenzhen" represents a major leap in sustainable maritime transport for the auto industry. As the world's second-largest PCTC, it boasts a massive capacity of 9,200 CEU (Car Equivalent Units). Crucially, it is powered by cutting-edge LNG dual-fuel technology, significantly reducing emissions like sulfur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter compared to conventional heavy fuel oil. This aligns perfectly with BYD's commitment to sustainable mobility solutions throughout its value chain.

"This voyage underscores BYD's commitment to stable and eco-conscious global delivery," said Stella Wang, VP of BYD Global Logistics. "The 'Shenzhen', with its immense capacity and cleaner LNG propulsion, provides a robust and lower-carbon logistics backbone for our rapidly expanding international operations, particularly in the critical European market. The seamless cooperation between Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and Xiaomo Port was instrumental in this successful loading."

The shipment of nearly 7,000 vehicles, including popular BYD models like the Atto 3 (Yuan PLUS), Dolphin, and Seal, highlights the strong and growing demand for Chinese-manufactured NEVs in Europe. The "Shenzhen" is expected to arrive at its European destination port in the coming weeks.

BYD Explorer No. 1 ("Shenzhen") Key Facts:

  • Capacity: 9,200 CEU (World's 2nd Largest PCTC)

  • Propulsion: LNG Dual-Fuel (Methanol Ready)

  • Owner: Leased by BYD from international shipowner

  • Operator: Zodiac Maritime

  • Builder: China International Marine Containers (CIMC)

The deployment of the "Shenzhen" is a key part of BYD's strategy to gain greater control over its international logistics network and ensure reliable, scalable, and increasingly sustainable transportation for its vehicles worldwide. BYD plans to add several more advanced car carriers to its chartered fleet in the near future.
