BYD’s Denza D9 MPV tops Chinese vehicle March sales in Indonesia
BYD's premium brand Denza has achieved remarkable success with its D9 MPV, which became the top-selling Chinese vehicle model shortly after entering the Indonesian market.
According to The Association of Indonesia Automotive Industry, 10 best-selling Chinese electric cars in Indonesia as of March 2025:
BYD Denza D9: 1,587 units
BYD M6: 1,293 units
BYD Sealion 7: 1,182 units
Chery iCar 03 (J6): 987 units
Aion Hyptec: 886 units
Wuling Air EV: 471 units
Wuling Binguo EV: 468 units
BYD Atto 3: 388 units
Wuling Cloud EV: 266 units
BYD Seal: 234 units
According to the latest market data, the Denza D9 recorded sales of 1,587 units in March 2025 in Indonesia, capturing 2.2% of the market share. This impressive performance has propelled it to be the best-selling Chinese model in the Indonesian market, ranking 11th overall and just 13 units different from Suzuki’s flagship XL7 SUV, which ranks 10th.
This Indonesian launch follows BYD’s earlier entry into the market in January 2024, when the company introduced three new energy vehicle models: the Dolphin, Seal, and Atto 3. BYD began delivering these vehicles to Indonesian customers in June 2024.
Back in China, the Denza D9 has been dominating the MPV segment. In January 2025, it reclaimed the top position in MPV sales with 10,026 units sold. The momentum continued into February, with the Denza D9 DM-i (plug-in hybrid version) securing the top spot with 7,213 retail sales.
By March 2025, the Denza D9 maintained its leadership with 9,326 units sold, establishing itself as the number one MPV in sales volume with a significant lead over competitors. For the first quarter of 2025, the Denza D9 DM-i recorded sales of 25,598 units.
