BYD Reaches 14 Million New Energy Vehicles Milestone at Brazilian Plant, President Lula Attends Ceremony
Camacari, Brazil – On October 9, 2025, BYD celebrated the rollout of its 14 millionth new energy vehicle (NEV) at its passenger car factory in Brazil, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion and reinforcing its leadership in the sustainable transportation sector. The event was attended by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Chinese Ambassador to Brazil Zhu Qingqiao, Bahia State Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, and BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu.
A Global First in NEV Production
BYD became the world’s first automaker to achieve the production of 14 million new energy vehicles, a testament to its rapid growth and innovation in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. During the ceremony, President Lula was presented with the milestone vehicle—a BYD Song Pro—by Chairman Wang Chuanfu, symbolizing the strong partnership between Brazil and BYD.
Strengthening Brazil-China Collaboration
In his address, President Lula praised BYD’s investment in Brazil, emphasizing how it has restored pride and dignity to the people of Camacari and Bahia. "You have the potential to make history by producing the most sophisticated and fastest cars on Earth. This achievement belongs to Bahia, China, and Brazil," he stated. He also criticized unilateral trade barriers (referring to U.S. tariffs) and reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to multilateralism and deepening ties with China.
Chairman Wang expressed gratitude to the Brazilian and Chinese governments, partners, and customers for their support over the past 11 years. "BYD has more than 170,000 owners in Brazil and has been the sales leader in the country’s NEV market for two consecutive years. We are not just an investor but a long-term partner," he announced.
commitments to Sustainability and Local Integration
As part of its sustainability initiatives, BYD will provide 30 customized NEVs for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil. These vehicles will facilitate low-carbon transportation during the event and later be donated to local schools and public institutions.
In a symbolic gesture, the road in front of BYD’s Brazilian plant was renamed "BYD Road," following similar tributes in Lancaster, USA, and Rayong, Thailand. This highlights BYD’s successful localization strategy and its expanding global footprint.
Accelerating Global Green Transformation
BYD’s achievement underscores its "globalization and local integration" approach, which combines innovation with green technology to drive the worldwide transition to sustainable mobility. From its first NEV to the 14 millionth, BYD continues to set new benchmarks in the automotive industry while contributing to a greener planet.
