BYD Launches Locally Produced Seal 5 DM-i Hybrid Sedan in Thailand
BYD has launched the locally produced Seal 5 DM-i in Thailand, which is known as the Chaser 05 in China, further expanding its product lineup in the Southeast Asian market.
The Seal 5 DM-i was launched in Thailand on August 8, marking the fourth model produced locally by the Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer in Thailand and the first right-hand drive model produced at BYD's Thailand factory.
The model is available in two variants in Thailand: Premium and Standard. The Premium model is available for immediate delivery, while the Standard model is expected to be delivered next year.
The Seal 5 DM-i's production at the Rayong plant marks BYD's recognition and confidence in Thailand's manufacturing capabilities, said Ke Yubin, general manager of BYD Thailand.
To date, BYD has sold over 90,000 vehicles in Thailand, according to a statement released by the company today.
BYD officially entered the Thai market in 2022, initially selling vehicles in the Southeast Asian country through imports.
On March 10, 2023, BYD began construction of its factory in Thailand.
On July 4, 2024, the factory began production and saw the first BYD vehicle manufactured in Thailand roll off the assembly line, which was also BYD's 8 millionth vehicle globally.
Last month, on the first anniversary of the Thai factory's operation, the first batch of mass-produced Seal 5 DM-i vehicles rolled off the assembly line at the factory.
BYD's launch of the SEAL 5 DM-i in Thailand is a result of a precise combination of "product + market + policy."
