The Blade Battery, a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell with a unique cell-to-pack (CTB) structure, has garnered worldwide attention for its unparalleled safety credentials. Rigorous testing, including the infamous nail penetration test, demonstrated zero combustion or explosion risks—a milestone in battery safety. With energy density rivaling traditional ternary lithium batteries and a lifespan exceeding 1.2 million miles (2 million kilometers), the Blade Battery powers BYD’s flagship models such as the BYD SEAL, ATTO 3, and DOLPHIN, now available in over 50 countries.

• Europe: Integrated into models like the BYD SEAL, launched at the 2023 Munich Motor Show, the Blade Battery supports BYD’s plan to capture 80% of its European EV sales with locally assembled vehicles by 2025. A new battery production line in Hungary will further bolster supply chain localization.

• Asia-Pacific: In Thailand, where BYD’s Rayong plant produces Blade Battery-equipped ATTO 3 and DOLPHIN EVs, the technology has driven a 150% surge in regional sales year-on-year. Similar momentum is underway in Australia, where the ATTO 3 ranks among the top-selling EVs.

• Americas: Partnerships in Brazil and Mexico aim to deploy Blade Battery-powered electric buses and passenger vehicles, aligning with government-led decarbonization initiatives.

Strategic Collaborations

To accelerate adoption, BYD is forging alliances with global energy giants. A landmark partnership with Shell will deploy over 30,000 charging stations across Europe and China by 2025, integrating Blade Battery-backed energy storage solutions. Additionally, joint ventures in Uzbekistan and the Middle East are set to localize battery production, reducing costs and enhancing accessibility.

Overcoming Challenges

Future Roadmap

BYD plans to invest $5 billion in next-generation battery R&D by 2026, targeting ultra-fast charging and enhanced cold-weather performance. Upcoming models, including a Blade Battery-powered electric pickup truck, will debut in key markets by 2024.
